Welcome to August First. We're a locally owned restaurant, bakery, and cafe in downtown Burlington, Vermont. Our bakery is in a renovated garage, filled with lots of sunlight and warmth. We start our day with coffee, latte, and espresso, and have a great selection of breakfast sandwiches on our own bread, as well as amazing pastries. Lunch time means healthy and delicious food -- salads, sandwiches, and soups made from the finest ingredients. We have great afternoon treats --- brownies, cookies, and other sweets. And we're open every Friday night for All-You-Can-Eat Flatbread Pizza.
Every morning, our bakers create amazing European-style hearth-baked organic breads. We only use organic flour, water, starter/yeast, and salt. No sweetners, all natural! Choose from Baguette, Country French Sourdough, Seven Grain, Whole Wheat (Whole Grain), Kalamata Olive, Jalapeno Cheddar, and other specialties.
We bake fabulous pastries every morning, too, and focus on traditional, heirloom recipes. Our bakery specialty is the Hungarian Sweet Roll, which is a classic pastry dough wrapped around a sweet walnut meringue. We also make them with a delightful Apricot-Almond filling.
Our other pastries and sweets include scones, cinnamon rolls, seasonal tarts, brownies, macaroons, and cookies.
Lunch starts at 11am, and we offer a great selection of delicious sandwiches, soups, and salads created with a focus on fresh, high-quality ingredients. See our menu here!
